So, Trump’s kinda, maybe, hinting at a new healthcare plan? Yeah, it sounds familiar. President Trump, he, uh, he sort of mentioned this whole replacement thing for Obamacare. You know, the Affordable Care Act.

In a Monday night interview—on Fox News, naturally—he, like, briefly touched on this proposal. It’s supposed to let Americans, you know, negotiate their own health insurance. Not rely on government subsidies and all that.

“That would be so exciting,” Trump told Laura Ingraham from Fox. Then he threw in, “Call it Trumpcare. Call it whatever you want…Anything but Obamacare!” I mean, the branding is… something.

And here’s the kicker, right? This all comes, like, two months before ACA subsidies are gonna expire. Which, according to the Congressional Budget Office—they’re the numbers people, after all—could leave millions facing higher premiums. And, worse, losing their health coverage altogether. The Dems are like, “Extend the subsidies or no government shutdown,” which, let’s be honest, has been a long shutdown. The longest in U.S. history, I think.

“I said it’s going to be a disaster. And I was exactly right,” Trump told Fox. “The premiums have gone up like rocket ships. And I’m not just talking about recently. I’m talking about for years they’ve been going up.”

Premiums have gone up, I checked. NPR says they’re up over 24 percent since 2019. That’s…significant.

Okay, so what’s the big plan then? Well, he proposed his, you know, alternative. Light on the details, of course.

“Instead of going to the insurance companies, I want the money to go into an account for people where the people buy their own health insurance,” Trump said. Wait, no—it sounds… vaguely familiar, doesn’t it?

“The insurance will be better,” he added. “It’ll cost less. Everybody’s going to be happy. They’re going to feel like entrepreneurs.” Entrepreneurs of…healthcare? I guess.

He actually mentioned something similar, over the weekend, on Truth Social. He was saying the money currently going to “money sucking Insurance Companies” should go “DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE…” You know, classic Trump.

Senator Rick Scott from Florida—Republican, obviously—jumped on it. He’s “writing the bill right now.” Apparently.

But then you have Senator Adam Schiff, Democrat from California. And he told ABC News: “We have no idea what the president means except it sounds like what he means is the same old, tired proposal of repealing the Affordable Care Act, giving people a benefit in the form of a health savings account, but allowing insurance companies once again to cancel policies and refuse to write policies for people who have preexisting health conditions.” So, yeah, skepticism. Seems justified.

Look, Trump has been railing against the ACA, Obamacare, since forever. It’s kind of his thing, or maybe was his thing. One of the defining features, they say, of his political career.

Back in 2016, he promised, promised, promised to “repeal and replace” it. But, like, all the Republican attempts? They flopped in Congress. Big time.

And during the 2024 campaign, he said he had “concepts of a plan.” But, yeah, details? Nowhere to be found. So, will this be any different? Honestly, who knows? We’ll see, I guess, if “Trumpcare”—if that’s what it ends up being called—ever actually becomes a real thing.
