Qwaqwa Community Grapples with Child Rape Allegations Against Local Religious Figure

A small village in Qwaqwa is facing a horrific situation. A 63-year-old man, reportedly considered a “Reverend” in the community, stands accused of repeatedly raping an eight-year-old girl. It’s a story that makes you sick. This alleged betrayal of trust has understandably sparked outrage and disbelief.

The teachers at the child’s school deserve credit here. Their vigilance in recognizing something was wrong and reporting it swiftly set in motion the wheels of justice. Apparently, the young girl confided in classmates, who then bravely spoke to a teacher. Paballong Village’s peace was fractured when the girl’s mother received the call from the school on November 11, 2025.

Police reports claim the assaults occurred more than once. The suspect was formally charged with rape on November 14th. He appeared in Tseki Magistrate Court three days later, where the charges were formally presented.

The NPA will challenge the accused’s release. Understandably, the community is shaken. Crowds gathered outside the courthouse, demanding justice. I can only imagine the sense of anger and violation permeating the air.

He’s scheduled to apply for bail later this month. The outcome of this case is crucial. A community seeks reassurance, and a young girl, undoubtedly traumatized, deserves justice. It remains to be seen if the legal system delivers it.
