Ousmane Dembele Crowned FIFA Men’s Player of the Year

Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembele has been named the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year, capping a stellar 2024-25 season. The 28-year-old attacker received the prestigious award in Qatar on Tuesday following an exceptional campaign with his club. This recognition follows his earlier triumph at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in September, where he was celebrated for his instrumental role in PSG’s quadruple trophy haul.

Dembele’s impressive form saw him record a remarkable 51 goals and assists in 53 matches under the guidance of coach Luis Enrique. His individual brilliance was particularly evident as he played a pivotal part in Paris Saint-Germain securing their maiden Champions League title. This historic achievement for the club underscored Dembele’s significant contribution and elevated his status on the global stage.

The forward’s outstanding performances throughout the award period, which spans from August 2024 to August 2025, saw him triumph over strong contenders. He beat out competition from Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe to claim the coveted individual accolade. The voting panel comprised national team coaches, captains, journalists, and fans, reflecting a broad consensus on his exceptional year.

Despite a somewhat slow start to the season, Dembele’s tactical adaptation proved to be a turning point. A strategic shift to a central striker role revitalized his performances, leading to a significant surge in his goal-scoring output. He netted a total of 35 goals, with eight of those coming in the Champions League, including crucial strikes against formidable opponents like Liverpool and Arsenal.

This latest award solidifies Ousmane Dembele’s position among the elite echelon of world football. His name now sits alongside legendary past winners such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, a testament to his sustained excellence. His impact extends beyond club football, as he has also been instrumental in France’s qualification for the upcoming World Cup.

Looking ahead, Dembele has already demonstrated his continued prowess in the current season, contributing three goals and three assists for PSG in all competitions. At the international level, his leadership and performance were key in securing France’s berth in next summer’s World Cup. The two-time champions will face challenging opponents in Senegal, Norway, and a play-off winner in the group stages.
