NNPP Confident of Strong 2027 Election Showing, Leaders Urge Unity

Abuja, Nigeria – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is poised for a significant electoral performance in the 2027 general elections, its National Leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, declared in Abuja. Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, expressed profound confidence in the NNPP’s organisational strength and its burgeoning national appeal.

Senator Kwankwaso commended the party’s internal structures and the disciplined conduct of its recent congresses nationwide. He described the NNPP as one of Nigeria’s most dynamic and high-performing political forces, asserting its readiness to face the challenges of the upcoming polls. He also extended congratulations to Professor Joash Amupetan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), expressing optimism for his success in the crucial role.

The former governor underscored the critical importance of unity, understanding, and unwavering dedication among party members as foundational pillars for future success. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, praising his administration’s performance and urging continued commitment from all NNPP faithful.

Earlier, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the NNPP National Chairman, lauded the party’s remarkable resilience and cohesion, noting its steadfastness despite concerted efforts to destabilise its operations. He highlighted a range of achievements, attributing them to strong leadership, unity among members, and an unwavering commitment to the party’s core values and principles.

Dr. Ahmed particularly commended Governor Yusuf for his impactful achievements in Kano State, citing significant advancements in education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and human capital. He stated that Governor Yusuf’s administration consistently upheld the ideals and objectives of the NNPP, showcasing practical governance rooted in the party’s manifesto. Ahmed also paid tribute to Senator Kwankwaso, describing him as the “unquestioned and unquestionable father of modern Kano” and a towering figure in Nigerian politics.

Warning against potential threats to democratic stability, Dr. Ahmed cautioned against any attempts to impose a one-party system in Nigeria. He stressed that such undemocratic efforts could lead to severe political instability and ultimately result in self-implosion, advocating instead for a robust multi-party democracy. He reiterated that the NNPP stands firmly united behind its national leader and Governor Yusuf, positioning itself for victory in 2027.

In his remarks, Mr. Oladipo Olayuku, the NNPP National Secretary, praised the transformative leadership of Senator Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf. He recounted the party’s journey from being relatively unknown when the current leadership assumed office in 2022 to its current status as a recognised national political force across the country.

Mr. Olayuku acknowledged the party’s commendable performance in the 2023 general elections, despite various internal and external challenges. He expressed gratitude to the judiciary for its resistance to undue interference in party administration and to INEC for its commitment to upholding the rule of law. He further disclosed that the NNPP has undertaken significant internal reforms, including a comprehensive review of its constitution and changes to its logo, slogan, and flag, as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections. He urged members to close ranks, set aside differences, and rally behind the new leadership expected to emerge from the forthcoming national convention, emphasising that collective effort is paramount for the party’s aspirations to be realised.
