Nigeria’s National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has addressed criticism regarding the title of actress Ini Edo’s latest film, “A Very Dirty Christmas.” The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) previously described the title as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith, arguing it diminished the spiritual significance of Christmas. CAN’s president, Daniel Okoh, expressed these concerns, questioning the NFVCB’s approval of the film.

In response, NFVCB Director-General Shaibu Husseini stated that while the board had not received formal communication from CAN, it acknowledged the issues raised. He emphasized that the NFVCB prioritizes religious sensitivity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence in its regulatory duties. The board maintains that the film underwent its standard censorship and classification process.

Husseini clarified that the title’s approval was based on its fictional and creative context, not intended to disparage Christianity.
