MotoGP achieved a historic milestone in 2025, attracting over 3.6 million fans to its races worldwide and establishing a new all-time attendance record. This significant achievement follows the championship surpassing three million spectators in the previous year, demonstrating a robust climb in global popularity. Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta offered a very positive assessment at the season’s conclusion, remarking on the “extraordinary” season with “record-breaking audience figures and unforgettable races.”
The expanded 22-round calendar played a crucial role in facilitating this unprecedented fan engagement. Ezpeleta highlighted that the 3.6 million mark underscores MotoGP’s global expansion while firmly maintaining its foundational roots. The season concluded with a particularly strong showing at Valencia, which he described as “the perfect ending” to a remarkable year.
Leading the charge in individual event attendance was the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, which drew an astonishing 311,797 spectators. This figure not only made it the most-attended race of the 2025 season but also marked the largest crowd in MotoGP history. Other circuits also reported exceptional numbers, with Sachsenring attracting 256,441 fans and Buriram welcoming 224,634.
Traditional European circuits demonstrated significant resurgence and sustained popularity. Jerez, for instance, saw 224,420 spectators, an increase of over 43,000 compared to 2024, marking its highest attendance in years. Assen, often referred to as the ‘cathedral of motorcycling’, broke new ground by surpassing 200,000 fans for the first time ever, reaching 200,104. Mugello and Misano also reaffirmed their status as top-selling events, contributing significantly to the overall European success.
The championship’s global appeal was further evidenced by strong performances outside Europe and the return of key venues. Termas de Rio Hondo successfully marked MotoGP’s return to South America after a one-year hiatus, drawing nearly 209,000 fans. The Czech Grand Prix at Brno, an iconic venue, made a popular comeback with 219,544 spectators, reinforcing the series’ regional strength. Even events like Austin and Losail, traditionally more modest in attendance, recorded comfortable increases, with Losail seeing nearly 50,000 fans.
Southeast Asia emerged as a pivotal growth engine for MotoGP. Mandalika, a relatively new circuit having debuted in 2022, attracted 140,324 fans during the Indonesian GP weekend, showcasing rapid development. Japan also experienced a notable increase, welcoming over 90,000 attendees, while Phillip Island and Sepang recorded modest but consistent growth, underscoring the region’s burgeoning interest in motorcycle racing.
The season’s finale at Valencia proved a major draw, bouncing back strongly after the previous year’s Solidarity GP, which was relocated due to severe flooding. A total of 205,319 spectators attended the 2025 Valencia event, representing an impressive increase of over 70,000 fans compared to 2024 and providing a celebratory conclusion to the record-breaking year.
Despite the widespread growth, two circuits registered a year-on-year decline in attendance. Silverstone in Great Britain and Spielberg in Austria both recorded lower figures than in 2024. The decrease at Spielberg was attributed to capacity limitations imposed for safety reasons, while the British Grand Prix faced challenges from adverse weather conditions and infrastructure issues.
Furthermore, Hungary’s reintroduction to the MotoGP calendar at the new Balaton Park Circuit did not meet expectations, attracting only 80,105 spectators. This figure placed it among the lowest-attended races of the season, with only the Qatar GP registering fewer fans, indicating areas for future development and optimisation.
