Luis Suárez signs new Inter Miami contract through 2026

Veteran striker Luis Suárez has extended his stay at Inter Miami, signing a new contract that will keep him with the Major League Soccer club through the 2026 season. The deal confirms the Uruguayan’s commitment to the MLS champions, who secured their first league title earlier this month.

Suárez, who will celebrate his 39th birthday in January, enjoyed a highly productive 2025 campaign. He registered an impressive 17 goals and 17 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, underscoring his enduring impact on the pitch.

Since his arrival at Inter Miami ahead of the 2024 season, Suárez has been a pivotal figure in the team’s ascent. He has amassed 42 goals and 29 assists in 87 matches, solidifying his status as one of the club’s most vital players.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas had previously expressed the club’s strong desire to retain Suárez, emphasizing that the decision ultimately rested with the player himself. Mas highlighted that Suárez deserved the autonomy to determine the end of his tenure.

The contract extension arrives on the heels of Inter Miami’s triumphant MLS Cup victory. While Suárez and teammate Lionel Messi did not score in the final, their collective influence was instrumental in the 3-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps.

Suárez and Messi now stand as the sole remaining members of the club’s celebrated “Core Four” former Barcelona stars. This group was once also comprised of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, both of whom retired after the 2025 playoffs.

Their enduring on-field chemistry continued to be a significant factor throughout the championship-winning season. Messi himself concluded the campaign by earning MLS Most Valuable Player honors, a record-setting second consecutive award.

Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, is also gearing up for the inauguration of their new home, Miami Freedom Park, scheduled for April 4th against Austin FC. The team’s 2026 season will commence with five consecutive away matches before their inaugural game at the new stadium.

With Suárez committing to another year and Messi continuing to lead the line, Inter Miami is well-positioned to build upon their recent success and maintain their prominent standing in Major League Soccer.
