I’m a Celeb Finally Gets It Right? A Needed Change.

So, I’m a Celebrity is shaking things up. Finally. It’s about time, honestly. Word on the street is, they’re putting a limit on how many trials one person can do in a row—two, max.

Why? Well, apparently, after last year’s Dean McCullough situation, where he did, like, seven trials (and Ant even called him out on it!), the producers are stepping in. It’s supposed to “give more celebs the chance to shine.” Which, yeah, makes total sense.

I’ve seen this happen on reality shows for years. Someone gets voted for every single time, either ’cause they’re genuinely terrible at challenges and it’s funny, or—let’s be real—because viewers just enjoy watching them squirm. Remember Helen Flanagan? Or Gillian McKeith practically fainting? It’s brutal.

But is it good TV in the long run? Sometimes I think it just makes the whole thing predictable.

And Nigel Farage moaned about contestants who do the challenges getting “25% of the airtime”—which is, like, yeah, fair point, Nigel.

The new rule is supposed to stop people from targeting certain celebs. Viewers can’t vote for the same person three days running. And then it’s a clean slate, kind of.

Look, in theory, this is a good move. Everyone wants a chance in the spotlight. And let’s be frank, being repeatedly covered in bugs can raise your profile. But for the rest of the campmates, it means crickets.

Producers say it’s based on feedback they got from contestants who were on the show before. They say that bosses want trials spread more evenly. You know, Waterloo Road’s Adam Thomas did twelve trials back in 2016. I’m sure the others felt a little left out!

Anyway, the lineup this year is…interesting. Lisa Riley from Emmerdale, some YouTuber called Angry Ginge, Shona McGarty from EastEnders, Ruby Wax…plus Alex Scott, Jack Osbourne, Aitch, and Vogue Williams. Should be a decent mix.

The article says that this season will be “the most memorable yet,” I guess because it’s the 25th series?

To be honest, I’m just hoping it’s not as boring as some of the recent ones have been. This rule change? It’s a start. Hopefully it means more variety, less predictable voting, and a better chance for some of the lesser-known faces to actually, you know, become known. We’ll see.
