Pachuca’s Alonso Aceves reportedly wants out for the Clausura 2026 season. Understandably, several Liga MX teams are circling. Chivas is in the mix, seemingly seeing him as an affordable pick-up. Yet, a key detail could make or break this deal.

Chivas currently has Bryan González holding down the left-back position quite well. So, while adding depth is never a bad idea, particularly for injuries and squad rotation, left-back isn’t exactly burning up Chivas’ priority list right now.

The rub? Gabriel Milito, Chivas’ manager, apparently wants Aceves to consider playing center back. He’s familiar with the role, and his defensive strengths might actually make him a better fit there in Milito’s system. It is worth noting, Aceves seemed headed to Monterrey, but Chivas’ interest appears to have shifted the landscape. Given Chivas’ good relationship with Pachuca, they might just have an edge, dependent on Aceves swaying Milito.

From what I gather, Milito’s focusing on three very specific needs: a ball-playing center back, a defensive midfielder with serious range, and an attacker who thrives between the lines. Aceves could slot in as a center back, but whether he actually ends up at Guadalajara still hangs in the balance. We will watch how this unfolds.
