Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has initiated legal proceedings against Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, seeking to halt the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland. The musician filed an application at the State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, requesting an interim injunction to prevent the governor and five other respondents from proceeding with any installation activities.

The lawsuit names several key figures and bodies involved in the chieftaincy affairs, including the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. These respondents are all implicated in the ongoing process to fill the vacant royal stool.

K1 De Ultimate’s interest in the Awujale stool stems from his claim of lineage to the Jadiara Royal House, which he asserts is part of the broader Fusengbuwa Ruling House. This claim, however, has been publicly disputed by the ruling family, who have stated that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland has no connection to their royal lineage. The rejection of his claim appears to be a significant factor leading to the legal action.

The motion ex parte, filed at High Court 2 under suit number HC3/238/2025, was lodged on December 16. The application cites relevant sections of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024, and the Nigerian Constitution, arguing for the court’s inherent jurisdiction to intervene in the matter. The musician is specifically asking the court to restrain all respondents from taking further steps in the selection process.

In his plea to the court, K1 De Ultimate emphasized the necessity of the interim injunction to safeguard his interests and prevent any irreversible actions that could disrupt the chieftaincy selection. He argued that such an order is crucial to preserve the integrity of the process and ensure that the royal stool is not subjected to undue interference or dissipation by the respondents.

The court has yet to schedule a hearing date for the application. The legal challenge by the popular Fuji maestro introduces a significant hurdle to the traditional succession process for one of Yorubaland’s prominent royal thrones, underscoring the complex interplay between lineage claims, family structures, and governmental oversight in chieftaincy matters.
