This incident follows a similar, and according to Cloudflare, “unacceptable,” outage just weeks prior.

Now, you might ask, why should anyone outside the tech world care? Well, consider this: Cloudflare’s software touches an estimated 20% of the web. The market’s reaction to the outage underscores the importance of reliability in this space. Users are not likely to stay loyal to a service when there are constant outages. You must maintain your reputation if you want to sustain growth.

This challenge forces a conversation about the resilience of the internet’s core infrastructure. We need diverse, robust, and geographically distributed systems to mitigate the impact of future disruptions. Cloudflare’s recent troubles serve as a stark reminder.
