An African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant, Engineer Andrew Aba, has officially announced his bid to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Benue State. Aba’s declaration, made to party faithful and stakeholders in Otukpo, centres on a promise of accountable leadership and a commitment to eradicating the pervasive poverty that plagues the state. He articulated a vision to fundamentally alter Benue’s developmental trajectory and foster sustainable, inclusive growth.
Aba, addressing supporters from the nine local government areas of Benue South (Zone C), highlighted the state’s significant human and natural resources, contrasting this wealth with the persistent challenges of poverty and deteriorating infrastructure. He asserted that his primary focus, should he be elected, would be on implementing robust poverty alleviation programmes and undertaking the critical rehabilitation of the state’s infrastructure.
“My aspiration is about good governance,” Aba stated, emphasizing that Benue possesses the potential to be built upon a strong foundation of accountability, integrity, and transparency. He argued that with the available resources, the citizens should not be deprived of essential life necessities. This underscores his belief in the untapped potential of the state and its people.
Central to Aba’s campaign message is the call for unity across Benue State. He urged the people of Benue South to coalesce and mobilize support throughout the state, including in Tiv land. This emphasis on a united front is seen as crucial for galvanizing a broad base of support necessary to challenge for the governorship.
While a detailed manifesto outlining his comprehensive development agenda is yet to be formally unveiled, Aba expressed his readiness to compete in the upcoming polls. He attributed his ambition to divine will and a belief in collective effort, stating, “I am not desperate, but I believe in collective effort and unity.” His declaration signals a serious intent to vie for leadership.
The aspirant’s announcement garnered support from notable figures within the political landscape. Former PDP deputy governorship candidate, Sir John Ngbede, acknowledged Aba’s courage in stepping forward. Additionally, ADC chieftain Mr. Atoo Agba endorsed Aba, deeming him well-qualified and urging Benue South to rally behind his candidacy for the 2027 election..
