The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched a campaign to secure the Delta State government house in the 2027 general elections, asserting that the state is long overdue for a significant shift in political leadership. Party officials made their intentions clear during a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, emphasizing that the current political direction is no longer sustainable.

Chieftains and members of the state transition committee, including Hon. Ozegbe Emeka Lawrence and Mr. Omonigho Anthony, articulated the party’s vision. They believe the ADC offers a necessary alternative, capable of driving the change that Delta State requires. The party is preparing for a robust electoral challenge, aiming to capture power with a clear and determined strategy.

Comparing Delta State’s development trajectory with that of Akwa Ibom State, Ozegbe highlighted stark contrasts. He pointed out that despite both states being created on the same date, Akwa Ibom has experienced more significant progress in its urban centers and infrastructure. This disparity, he argued, underscores the need for a new approach in Delta.

Ozegbe questioned the prolonged period of stagnation, despite Delta State’s abundant human capital and accomplished professionals. He lamented that individuals from diverse ethnic groups within the state, known for their expertise in finance and banking, have not translated into substantial state development over two decades.

This perceived underperformance has galvanized what Ozegbe described as “healthy-minded and conscientious politicians” to seek a change in governance. The ADC is presenting itself as the platform for renewal and relief, urging all Deltans to embrace its agenda for a revitalized state.

The party announced that a statewide membership revalidation and new member registration drive will commence on December 19, 2025. This initiative aims to build a strong grassroots support base, with coordinators being appointed to spearhead an aggressive membership mobilization across the state.

Addressing inquiries about former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s affiliation, Ozegbe clarified the ADC’s position as a coalition platform. He explained that if the Labour Party is part of a coalition that has adopted the ADC as its vehicle for political reform, then Obi is, in principle, aligned with this movement.

Regarding the ADC’s prospects against the established Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Ozegbe acknowledged the dynamic nature of politics. He drew parallels to recent rapid shifts in political alliances nationwide, likening the upcoming contest to the biblical battle of David and Goliath. He expressed confidence that Deltans are increasingly disillusioned with the current political order and are ready for a transformative change.
