Actor Admits Paid Campaign to Troll Davido Online

Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has publicly apologised to Nigerian music star Davido, confessing that he was paid a substantial sum to launch a social media campaign against the singer, his wife, and their family. Maduagwu made the startling admission during an appearance on Peks Ikeji TV, a clip of which has since gone viral.

Detailing the alleged operation, Maduagwu revealed he received 2.5 million Nigerian Naira (approximately $1,600 USD) to publicly criticise Davido online. He emphasised that the Grammy-nominated artist had never personally wronged him, framing the attacks as a paid performance orchestrated by others.

Maduagwu further claimed that he was not acting alone, stating that approximately five other social media influencers were also compensated to participate in the coordinated effort to tarnish Davido’s public image. The actor expressed remorse, describing his participation as wrong and unnecessary.

“I want to use this opportunity to apologise to Davido,” Maduagwu stated in the viral clip. “I was paid to ridicule you, your wife, your family on social media. I am not the only one; we were like five influencers. I sincerely apologise. Please forgive me. I collected ₦2.5 million to ridicule you. I am sorry.”

The confession has ignited a firestorm of reactions across social media platforms. While some users lauded Maduagwu for his candour and encouraged others to come clean, many expressed disbelief and concern over the alleged prevalence of paid online harassment within the entertainment sphere.

This revelation has reignited widespread discussions about the ethics of online influence and the potential for paid disinformation campaigns to target public figures. The entertainment industry now faces renewed scrutiny regarding the integrity of online discourse and the accountability of influencers involved in such activities.
