Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party and ex-governor of Anambra State, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Nigerian presidential election. Obi explicitly stated that he has no interest in serving as a running mate to any candidate, emphasizing that his extensive leadership experience is aimed at securing the nation’s highest office. He asserted that his accumulated experience in governance and business has prepared him for the presidency and that he will not compromise this ambition by accepting a vice-presidential role.
“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice president,” Obi declared during the online forum. He further elaborated on his qualifications, stating, “I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President.”
