Calvert-Lewin Scores Again as Leeds Draw at Sunderland

Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his impressive scoring streak, netting his sixth goal in as many games to secure a 1-1 draw for Leeds United against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The result extends Leeds’ unbeaten run to five matches, while Sunderland maintains its strong home record in the Premier League.

Sunderland took the lead in the 28th minute through a well-taken strike from new signing Simon Adingra. The Ivory Coast international received a pass from Granit Xhaka and curled an excellent shot into the net, marking his first goal since his arrival on Wearside. The home side had enjoyed a lively start, with Adingra and Nordi Mukiele both creating early chances.

Leeds, however, grew into the game and found their equalizer just two minutes into the second half. A swift attacking move saw Brenden Aaronson deliver a low pass to Calvert-Lewin, who finished clinically to bring his league tally to eight for the season. This goal galvanized the visitors, who began to assert pressure on the Sunderland defence.

The match saw a spirited performance from both sides, with numerous opportunities created. Sunderland nearly doubled their lead before halftime, with Brian Brobbey hitting the crossbar from a header. Leeds also had a strong chance through Calvert-Lewin, whose close-range effort was brilliantly cleared off the line by Trai Hume.

Following the equalizer, Leeds pushed for a winner, with Jayden Bogle and Ethan Ampadu both going close. Goalkeeper Robin Roefs made several key saves for Sunderland, denying headers from Jaka Bijol and a powerful strike from Ampadu. The Black Cats also had opportunities to retake the lead through Eliezer Mayenda and Omar Alderete, but the match ultimately fizzled out into a draw.

The draw sees Sunderland remain in seventh place in the Premier League standings, continuing their solid start to the campaign. Leeds, meanwhile, occupy 16th position but will take confidence from their recent form and Calvert-Lewin’s prolific goal-scoring, which provides a significant boost to their survival hopes.
