Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted that he is currently the most verbally attacked politician in Nigeria, second only to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike made this declaration on Saturday during a gathering of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The meeting was held as part of an end-of-year thanksgiving service hosted by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, in his hometown. Wike’s statement comes amid ongoing political discourse and public scrutiny surrounding his role and past actions.
Wike attributed the criticism he faces to his steadfast adherence to agreements and his commitment to ensuring his supporters remain involved and considered. He emphasized that this principle guides his political decisions and interactions.
The former Governor of Rivers State reiterated his stance that his followers must continue to offer their support to President Tinubu, a position he stated was established through prior mutual understanding and commitment.
“After Tinubu, the next most abused politician today is me,” Wike stated, directly addressing the reasons for the public ire. He explained that the attacks stem from his insistence on upholding agreed-upon terms, suggesting a perceived inflexibility on his part.
“When we have agreed on something let’s implement it, if we can’t implement it, don’t even come for it,” he elaborated, underscoring his belief in the sanctity of political pacts. This principle, he believes, is the root of the opposition and criticism he endures.
Wike concluded by reaffirming his political allegiance and the commitment of his faction. “So for us, long before now we have agreed that we must make sure that we will continue to support Tinubu, that is the position you took and that is the position we are going to still take,” he declared, signaling a continued alignment with the current administration.
