This assurance, delivered at St. James’ Anglican Church in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, signals a deliberate effort to foster political stability and continuity within the southwestern Nigerian state. The governor asserted that his administration would not only “finish well and finish strong” but would also successfully hand over to a successor, marking a significant moment in the state’s political history.
Abiodun highlighted the profound importance of this impending transition, stating it would represent the first truly peaceful handover in Ogun State’s five-decade history. This assertion implicitly acknowledges a past characterised by potentially contentious or challenging transfers of gubernatorial authority. His confidence extends to personally attending both his send-forth ceremony and the swearing-in of the incoming governor, underscoring a belief in an unblemished and orderly democratic process. The governor attributed his optimism for a seamless transition to what he described as robust governance, sustained economic growth, and an unwavering focus on people-centric projects throughout his tenure. He proudly cited a near fivefold expansion of Ogun State’s economy, with the state budget reportedly escalating from approximately ₦355 billion to over ₦2.7 trillion. Elaborating on his administration’s tangible achievements, Abiodun detailed the reconstruction of more than 2,000 schools, a critical investment in human capital development.
