Former Abia Central Senator, Chris Adighije, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to decisively remove underperforming executive officials during the upcoming party congress in 2026. Adighije’s call, delivered to APC stakeholders in Umuahia South Local Government Area, aims to rectify past electoral shortcomings and strengthen the party’s foundation for future victories.
Adighije specifically warned against re-electing individuals who have fostered division or worked against the party’s collective interests. He expressed a strong commitment to ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s success in the 2027 general elections, vowing to prevent a repeat of the electoral missteps experienced in 2023 within Umuahia South and the broader Abia State.
“I charge you to vote out those executives who did not perform. Use your votes to remove them during the congress,” Adighije stated, emphasizing the need for accountability. He stressed that the party faithful must deliver their respective polling units in the 2027 elections and cautioned against any form of sabotage that could jeopardize these efforts.
The former senator also weighed in on the national political landscape, predicting that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi would once again face defeat against President Bola Tinubu should he decide to contest the 2027 presidential election. This projection underscores Adighije’s confidence in the current administration’s prospects.
Amidst his calls for internal party reform, Adighije revealed that he is facing internal opposition, with some party members reportedly plotting his expulsion. He attributed these efforts to his candid pronouncements on the party’s performance and internal dynamics, asserting his commitment to speaking the truth.
Furthermore, Adighije clarified speculation surrounding his daughter, Jenifer Adighije, the Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Power Holding Company. He definitively stated that she has no intention of resigning her current position to pursue a House of Representatives seat in 2027, dispelling rumors of her imminent political aspirations.
