Daniel Daga Faces Norway Assault Charge Amid Innocence Claim

Nigerian Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga faces charges of alleged sexual assault in Norway, a development confirmed by his club, Molde FK. The young footballer vehemently maintains his innocence, asserting that the encounter was consensual. This serious accusation has led to his suspension from all club activities pending the legal process, casting a shadow over his burgeoning career.

Molde FK issued a statement confirming the charges following a complaint from a woman in Norway. The club emphasised the gravity of the matter, acknowledging the demanding nature of such cases for all parties involved. Daga has fully cooperated with Norwegian authorities, attending all police interrogations during the initial investigation.

A private investigation conducted by SportsRation, however, suggests that the accusation against Daga lacks strong evidentiary support. The report posits that the Nigerian player may be a victim of false accusations, potentially stemming from an attempt at extortion. SportsRation’s findings indicate that the interaction in question was consensual, expressing confidence in Daga’s eventual exoneration.

Following his cooperation with the authorities, Daga returned to Nigeria. He is expected to travel back to Norway ahead of the scheduled court hearings. The proceedings are slated for March 2026 at the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court, where Daga will have the opportunity to present his defence.

Odd Ivar Moen, chairman of Molde FK, addressed the situation, stating, “This is a serious matter, and we take the charges very seriously. These types of cases are extremely demanding for everyone involved.” The club has also engaged with the complainant’s legal representatives, recognising the emotional toll the case exacts.

The complainant’s lawyer, Anette Western Torgersen, declined to elaborate on the details of the case, offering only that the situation represents “a great burden for the victim.” This brief statement underscores the distress experienced by the alleged victim, highlighting the sensitive nature of the allegations.

Daga’s legal counsel, Astrid Bolstad, firmly denies any wrongdoing on her client’s part. Bolstad confirmed that while her client acknowledges a sexual encounter took place, he insists it was entirely consensual. She stated, “My client does not plead guilty and believes he has done nothing illegal. There is no suspicion of violence or threats. He looks forward to having the case heard in court so he can clear his name.”

Bolstad further revealed that Daga has been profoundly affected by the charge and expressed surprise that the investigation led to a formal prosecution. The young midfielder’s emotional well-being has been significantly impacted by the ongoing legal battle and the public nature of the allegations.

Before this legal challenge, Daniel Daga had established himself as a key player for Molde FK. He joined the club ahead of the 2025 season and quickly became a regular presence in midfield, making 17 appearances across all competitions during his debut campaign in Norwegian football. His on-field contributions had marked him as a promising talent.

As the legal process continues, Molde FK has reiterated its commitment to upholding principles of fairness, responsibility, and respect for all parties involved. The club navigates the complex situation while awaiting the outcome of the judicial proceedings, maintaining an impartial stance in the face of the serious allegations.
