Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced a significant increase in the state’s treasury, stating that it doubled to ₦600 billion during his six-month suspension.

Governor Fubara made this revelation on Wednesday during the inauguration of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road in Ahoada-East Local Government Area. He asserted that his administration left over ₦300 billion in state coffers prior to the period of emergency rule and returned to find the amount had grown substantially.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to prudent and transparent resource management, assuring residents that financial records are meticulously maintained and verifiable. The governor stressed that detailed accounts of revenue, expenditure, and ongoing projects remain intact.

Governor Fubara pledged to make the full financial records of Rivers State publicly accessible within the next six months, underscoring accountability as a cornerstone of his leadership. He reiterated his personal integrity and dedication, stating he has never been linked to financial impropriety.

“Your money and the record of how your money is being spent are intact, and we are executing very strong and impactful projects across the state,” Governor Fubara stated, highlighting his administration’s focus on tangible development initiatives.

The newly inaugurated Obodhi–Ozochi Road project, spanning 14.2 kilometres, was described as a crucial intervention aimed at enhancing connectivity for communities in Ahoada-East. The project, initially started by his predecessor, saw its scope expanded under Governor Fubara’s leadership.

He expressed gratitude for the community’s support, viewing their warm reception and presentation of 14 cows as powerful symbols of unity and appreciation. The governor assured the community that their requests, including further road extensions, would be met with positive responses.

Governor Fubara also appealed for continued political backing, urging stakeholders to channel the strong community turnout into future electoral support, particularly for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Earlier, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, confirmed that the Obodhi–Ozochi Road and Bridge Project adheres to stringent engineering standards and meets all required specifications.
